How To Get Munchlax In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl. Munchlax was an extremely rare Pokemon that could only be found in Honey Trees in the original Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. This mechanic is back in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, but there’s also a new way to get the gluttonous Pokemon.
Trainers who want the tanky Normal-type Snorlax on their team must first evolve a Munchlax. Since the introduction of the Grand Underground, players have been able to capture rare Pokemon that were previously difficult to obtain in Diamond and Pearl. Munchlax is included. There are two ways to add a Munchlax to the team/PC in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Honeysuckle and Honey Trees
The original, and arguably more frustrating, method of obtaining Munchlax is through the use of Honey Trees. In Diamond/Pearl, this was the only way to catch Munchlax.
Trainers will need to defend someone from Team Galactic grunts when they arrive in Floaroma Town. They will receive the Honey item as a reward for defeating them and will be able to use it on Honey Trees.
These trees are golden in colour, unlike regular trees, and players can interact with them as long as they have Honey in their inventory. Apply some honey to the bark and return in 6 hours. Honey will remain on the tree for 24 hours, but Pokemon will leave if the tree is not checked prior to that time. Regrettably, this means that trainers will have to reapply.
Obtaining Munchlax from Honey Trees can appear to be a time-consuming process. Munchlax, for example, only spawns on specific Honey Trees. This was determined by a Trainer’s ID in Diamond/Pearl. So, only a few of Sinnoh’s 21 Honey Trees could spawn Munchlax, who has a Rare chance of appearing.
Trainers should use Honey Trees to catch other Honey Tree-exclusive Pokemon (such as Cherubi or Aipom) instead, unless they are in a hurry to catch Munchlax or want a Snorlax.

Underground Grand
The Grand Underground’s Grassland Cave Highway is the second option. Here’s how to get access to this biome:
- First, defeat Crasher Wake of the Pastoria City Gym.
- Next, go to the Safari Zone in Pastoria City. If this isn’t the first time visiting the Safari Zone, then players can speak to the boy with the green hair in the Safari Zone’s lobby and get HM Defog immediately. If this is the first time visiting, go into the Safari Zone, then immediately exit. As long as the player has been into the Safari Zone at least once, they will be able to get Defog from the green-haired NPC.
- Now, use Fly to get to Sandgem Town and use the Explorer Kit.
- The Grassland Cave Highway is indicated by a green square on the map. It is located to the south.
- Enter the Grassland Cave Highway and look for Munchlax. Exit and reenter until it spawns.
Munchlax has a low catch rate, so use stronger Poke Balls like Ultra Balls to catch it. Trainers can also experiment with Love Balls, Nest Balls, and Level Balls, depending on the level of their party.
If a player desires more than one Munchlax, they can return to the biodome or evolve Munchlax into Snorlax (high friendship). To obtain a Munchlax Egg, have Snorlax hold a Full Incense before placing it in the Daycare with a compatible Pokemon (such as Ditto).
