How To Get Verified on Twitter 2022 Twitter launched a verification mechanism in 2009 that allowed you to apply for a blue check mark next to your name. The mark indicated whether the account was real, ensuring that you did not unintentionally follow someone impersonating Elon Musk, Katy Perry, or another celebrity or company. It did, however, identify significant accounts, and until recently, anyone could apply to verify they were who they claimed to be.
Unfortunately, the verification gates were closed on February 26, 2018, and people have been waiting to have their accounts validated ever since. Twitter has just confirmed that they are reopening, and the option will be available in the app in the coming weeks.
You may have noticed that Twitter has subsequently suspended verification requests; however, the firm has recently resumed accepting requests, so if you weren’t able to apply previously, try again now.
When the option to verify your Twitter account returns to the app, we’ll show you how to do it.
How can I get my Twitter account verified?
To begin, it’s crucial to recognise that a blue tick does not affect everyone. They’re for genuine, well-known, and active accounts in the following categories:
- Government
- Companies, brands and organisations
- News organisations and journalists
- Entertainment
- Sports and gaming
- Activists, organisers, and other influential individuals
If you believe you meet the criterion for ‘strong public interest,’ you can see if you have the option to apply under Settings and Privacy. The Verified option is “rolling out over the coming couple weeks,” according to Twitter.
Tap Start request when you have access to the option to request verification.
On the following screen, select the category that best represents you.
After that, you’ll have to confirm your identity. This could be:
- A government issued ID (such as a passport)
- A confirmed email address relevant to the category you chose
- A official website which references your Twitter account.
The request can then be submitted. Twitter claims it will let you know when you can expect a decision – normally within a few days, but depending on the length of the queue, it might take several weeks.
The blue tick will appear on your profile right away if your application is approved.
Will Twitter’s verification categories be expanded?
Yes. It says it recognises that other accounts should be eligible for the badge, and that it plans to add other categories later in 2021.
