Best Musket Build Pros & Cons In New World

Best Musket Build Pros & Cons In New World is fantastic in that it provides players with a wide variety of weaponry to pick from, each tailored to a specific playstyle. With the arrival of the Void Gauntlet in Aeternum, it appears that developers are hard at work developing new and fascinating weaponry as well. What’s more, all of the weapons currently available in New World are reasonably balanced, with each offering certain advantages and disadvantages to those determined to master them.

When it comes to ranged weapons, players can use a staff to sling spells, a bow to launch arrows, or a musket to fire from a vast distance. The latter is likely one of the most powerful weapons in New World, but it is not without flaws.

PRO: The Musket Has a Longer Range

The musket is ideal for those that prefer to attack from the shadows rather than fight the enemy head-on. Musket users can take out foes before they ever have a chance to engage them effectively, thanks to their superior range. If a player can use the landscape around them to position themselves effectively, enemy players will have a hard time figuring out where their shots are coming from. Even better, musket users may use the high ground and obstructions around them to make it more difficult for A.I. opponents to approach them, giving them more time to deal major damage or outright kill them before they take any damage.

CON: Good DPS necessitates skill shots.

Players will not be able to just “point and click” their way to victory in New World due to the aiming system’s design. The action-based MMO has no “auto-engage” option, so players will have to aim all of their skills and spells manually. This translates to the musket, which, like any other third-person firing mechanic, aimed via third-person style. Unfortunately, there is no lock-on mechanism, thus musketeers will have to aim each and every shot manually. For people who used to aiming, this can be a pain.

PRO: Muskets Have the Potential to Burn Enemies

Damage over time (DOT) is an extremely important feature in any MMO, especially when it comes to PVP. Overloading an enemy with a variety of DOTs might make it difficult for them to repair properly, as the damage will gradually deplete their health pool, on top of the typical damage a player will deal with other hits.

To make musket users even more deadly, developers included a skill called powder burn, which deals more damage than a standard shot while also causing a nine-second burn on the target. This can be an excellent strategy to keep an adversary under constant fire and put pressure on them while the musket player goes to a safer location to re-engage them.

CON: Musket reloading takes a long time.

When it comes to muskets, one of the most noticeable flaws is their incredibly slow reload time. They clearly one of the most powerful weapons in the game, and their ability to provide large bursts of damage countered by the fact that users must reload after each fire. For comparison, players who wield staves can freely sling spells as long as they have mana, while those who wield a bow can sling arrows as quickly as they can knock them down.

Musketeers, on the other hand, will have to suffer through a brief but inconvenient reload period after firing, giving foes time to confront them if they aren’t far enough away. Up close, a musket user at a serious disadvantage, hence reload time should included into any offensive strategy.

PRO: Muskets can be used as a defensive weapon.

The musket is a long-range weapon that rewards players who stay out of enemy range, but that doesn’t imply it’s absolutely vulnerable. Players that choose to use the musket will have access to two skill trees, one of which focuses on increased damage and the other on a set of tactical skills that can make musket users tough to catch. Trappers can protect themselves from melee attackers by enticing them into a three-second immobility (but also making them a sitting duck), while the Stopping Power talent allows musket users to flee by knocking back and staggering any pursuers.

CON: Muskets are solely based on dexterity.

Although muskets are among the most powerful weapons in the New World, it’s crucial to remember that they only scale with Dexterity. This isn’t a problem for those that plan on using a musket as their major source of DPS, but it drastically restricts the kind of “builds” a player can create. If you want a matched melee weapon that scales as well as the Rapier and Spear, you’ll have to put all your points into Dexterity.

Sword and Hatchet are also possible options, but their second characteristic is Dexterity. At the end of the day, musket players should have no trouble finding at least one effective melee item to keep on them, although the musket’s pure Dexterity nature limits their options when compared to other builds.

PRO: In Group PVP, Musket Users Are Extremely Dangerous

In a group PVP environment, musket users are one of the most dangerous players to face. When weapons are flying and players are attempting to defend themselves against melee-based assaults, musket players can sit back and pick off adversaries one by one from a high perch. Those who know how to skillfully dodge can make light work of a musket user in a one-on-one situation, but it’s exceedingly tough to dodge incoming shots while fighting numerous adversaries in a group scenario. Players who grasp the value of the musket as a “sniper” can be extremely lethal, quickly turning the tides of a large-scale conflict.

CON: Some PVE Content can be difficult for Musket users.

In PVP, the musket can annihilate opponents, but in some PVE material, it’s a different storey. Players will confront tremendously powerful adversaries with vast quantities of health as they move through the planet of Aeternum, foes capable of dealing catastrophic damage. Players who fail to defend against their attacks or properly move out of range of stronger spells punished by the bosses in New World.

It can be tough for pure musket players to take on some of the harder PVE material as a single act due to the musket’s need to reload and the many skills that keep players “stationary when shooting.”
