How to get amber with Skyrim
Amber can be identified by its brownish-orange and oval shapes and can be found in several different places around Skyrim.
The best place to find it should be the Solitude Sewers in the western part of Solitude. This quest takes you to the sewer.
Below the sewer Solitude is a hollow route tunnel that is part of the Shivering Isles route system. Among them are many hollow tree stumps
Instead of stepping into these sewers, you can also find a Kagit merchant who can get the glass. These traders travel by caravan and can be encountered on roads that travel from town to town. Upon arriving at their destination, they set up a camp for business outside the front door of the town. If you can find one of these caravans, you can buy amber directly from them
Similar to getting amber from Solitude Sewers, you can’t buy from traders until you’ve completed “Restore Order”. When you complete this quest, your courier will give you a note about your new clothing. This is what triggers the tradability of this resource.
Uses of amber
To be able to do anything with amber in Skyrim, you need to convert it to sophisticated amber. This is done by smelting two ambe.
To know how to do this, you first need to complete the miscellaneous quest “Amber and Madness Smith”. This quest begins with reading a note about amber and crazy ore on Tron’s workbench during the “Restore Order” quest. You will also need Glass Smithing.

Sophisticated amber is used to make amber armor and weapons. Most of them require moonstone and leather strips to make. The only exceptions are amber arrows that use amber and firewood, and amber bows that do not require leather. The required materials are:

- Amber Battleaxe: 4 Amber, 1 Moonstone, 2 Leather Strips
- Amber Bow: 2 Amber, 1 Moonstone, 1 Leather Strip

- Amber Greatsword: 4 Amber, 1 Moonstone, 3 Leather Strips
- Amber Mace: 2 Amber, 1 Moonstone, 1 Leather Strip
- Amber Sword: 2 Amber, 1 Moonstone, 1 Leather Strip
- Amber War Axe: 1 Amber, 1 Moonstone, 2 Leather Strips
- Amber Warhammer: 3 Amber, 1 Moonstone, 3 Leather Strips
