How To Unlock All Characters
You will simply have to play in order to unlock all of the characters. If you have enough hope, you will be able to unlock the character for that rank. For example, once you reach rank 3, you will be able to unlock the Hellion, which is one of the best classes in my opinion.

- Hope raises your profile rank
- Rank 3 unlocks Hellion
- Rank 6 unlocks Runawa
- 9 Jester
- 12 Leper
- 15 unlocks Occultist

You gain hope by completing missions, defeating enemies, progressing with your waggon, keeping the torch lit, and assisting others. Essentially, the longer you go, the more hope you will bring back with you when you die. Just keep in mind that the goal is to get as far as possible, not to bring back as much hope as possible.
