How To Survive An EMMI Encounter And How To Defeat Them In Metroid Dread. challenges players to battle a slew of adversaries, including confrontations with E.M.M.Is. An E.M.M.I. is a skulking, terrifying robot that patrols the map’s grey zones. To proceed through the storey mode, players must battle various E.M.M.Is throughout the game.
Before facing an E.M.M.I., players must first defeat the Central Unit nearby in order to obtain the Omega Blaster and Omega Stream. Players with momentary Omega abilities can do damage to an E.M.M.I.’s outer armour and expose its head to damage.
The general principle of removing an E.M.M.I’s faceplate to reveal its head remains the same. Players will obtain a new ability after defeating an E.M.M.I., such as Metroid Dread’s Morph Ball.

Players will encounter the following E.M.M.I.s in Metroid Dread:
- Gray E.M.M.I.: The first E.M.M.I. players will encounter in Artaria is already damaged. Samus does not get a power-up from this E.M.M.I.
- White E.M.M.I.: Players must destroy the white E.M.M.I.’s outer shield to access its head. Drop down from the room with the Omega Cannon, aim left, and fire at the E.M.M.I. when it arrives from the left side. This E.M.M.I. grants the Spider Magnet upgrade.
- Green E.M.M.I.: Head right from the Omega Cannon room to the top of the platform. The green E.M.M.I. will come from below and exit on the opposite side. Make space between Samus and this E.M.M.I. to break down its faceplate. This E.M.M.I. grants the Morph Ball upgrade.
- Yellow E.M.M.I.: This E.M.M.I. is extraordinarily fast. Players must put as much distance between themselves and the yellow E.M.M.I. as possible. Use the long straightaway below to make ample space. This E.M.M.I. grants the Speed Booster upgrade.
- Blue E.M.M.I.: This E.M.M.I. can freeze Samus with an ice ray. Players must use the magnetized slider on the ceiling to pull Samus across the room. Let the E.M.M.I. catch up and break its faceplate while it moves across the ceiling. This E.M.M.I. grants the Ice Missiles upgrade.
- Purple E.M.M.I.: This E.M.M.I. can paralyze Samus with a laser. Outside the weapon room, fire the Omega Cannon at the button across the room. Take the Morph Ball route out. Shoot the lower left wall to move through. Then, shoot the wall above and destroy the E.M.M.I. as it catches up to Samus. This E.M.M.I. grants the Wave Beam upgrade.
- Red E.M.M.I. This E.M.M.I. grants the Power Bomb upgrade.
Even while there are strategies for defeating each E.M.M.I., they are not failsafe. The E.M.M.I.’s hand will flash a bright light, which players must counter by pressing x. If a player fails the first counter check, he or she has one more chance when the E.M.M.I.’s head flashes its light. Exhilarating boss battles like these are one of the reasons Metroid Dread is the series’ fastest-selling title in the United Kingdom.
