While you can buy the pre-made dye from Trading Posts or the in-game store, it’s rarely the most cost-effective option. The better option is to make your own dyes from the various pigments available in the game world. Some quests will also give you raw pigments as a reward. When you get a pigment, use your Cooking skill from your inventory to turn it into a usable dye.

How to Make Dye in the Modern World
To create dye in the New World:
- Harvest pigments from Prismablooms and fungus
- Combine and process the pigments into dyes at a Kitchen or Cooking Station
- Use dyes from your inventory to color armor and furniture
While there are only 12 primary pigment colours, you can combine more than one at a time while cooking to create a veritable rainbow of potential dyes. You can freely apply dye to your armour to change its colour once you’ve obtained it. You can also use dye to change the colour of certain pieces of furniture; in fact, some furniture is dyed as part of the construction, so it never hurts to have a few pouches on hand.
Where can I find pigments in the New World?
Pigments are derived from various Prismabloom and fungus species found throughout the New World. Here are the twelve types of pigments and the fungus in which they can be found:
- Black Pigment – Black Prismabloom
- Blue Pigment – Blue Prismabloom, Tanglewisp, Toadpot
- Brown Pigment – Brown Prismabloom, Bumbleblossom, Slimy Twistcap
- Cyan Pigment – Cyan Prismabloom
- Green Pigment – Green Prismabloom, Fronded Petalcap, Spinecap
- Magenta Pigment – Magenta Prismabloom, Tendrilspine
- Orange Pigment – Orange Prismabloom, Warm Platecap
- Purple Pigment – Purple Prismabloom, Weeping Shellbed
- Red Pigment – Red Prismabloom, Corrupted Bloodspore
- Turquoise Pigment – Turquoise Prismabloom

To locate specific colours on the map, go to the interactive New World map and search for Prismabloom. Unfortunately, there is no best location for farming these because they are evenly distributed throughout Aeternum in different zones.
Making dyes in the kitchen or at a cooking station
Dye is made in New World at a Kitchen or Cooking Station, and crafting it will grant you Cooking XP. Each dye requires three drops of water and a mixture of two different pigments. Basic colours can be crafted in a Tier 2 Kitchen, but higher-tier unique dyes will necessitate a high level of cooking skill and a Tier 4 Kitchen.

How to Use Dye in the New World
You can finally apply dye to your armour after crafting it or obtaining it through other means. Locate the dye in your inventory, click it to open the menu, and then select the dye option. This brings up the Dye Equipped Armor screen, where you can apply the dye to specific armour pieces.
