According to Swift, the songs on the album about “13 sleepless nights spread throughout [her] life.” A “collection of songs produced in the middle of the night through terrors and wonderful dreams” is another way to characterize Midnights.

Especially given that Mastermind, the album’s thirteenth track, may be one of the more enduring songs.
