The Traveling Merchant
Players will first encounter The Traveling Merchant early in their adventures. He or she is a Special NPC. He has traveled to and from far locations and is an intrepid and enterprising individual. The Traveling Merchant offers a haphazard assortment of rare, hard-to-find equipment and supplies. He is obviously a useful NPC to have around, but unlike a typical Town NPC. He won’t dwell in a House and won’t stay out late.

The Old Man
To advance in the game and enter Hardmode, you must interact with The Old Man, a Special NPC. He is a shadowy, menacing elderly man that strikingly resembles a certain Town NPC. The Old Man’s sole function is to call forth Skeletron. A skeletal boss who guards the entrance to the maze-like Dungeon. He unable to reside in a House; instead, he does so in the Dungeon. Where he will remain until he released from his curse and has restored to somewhat normality.

The Skeleton Merchant
When exploring the world, players may come across The Skeleton Merchant, a Special NPC. He is a peculiar and opportunistic skeleton boy who deviates from the hedonistic impulses of other members of his species. Many of the tools and things available from The Skeleton Merchant associated with yo-yos and spelunking. He unable to live in house. Because he only explores extensive underground cave networks in search of valuables.
