AutoCAD 2020 23.1.The name AutoCAD derived from “automatic drawing”. It designed to run as an integral part of a workflow environment. In other words, AutoCAD often bundled with other applications, particularly other CAD applications. This allows designers and other professionals to use AutoCAD and other applications simultaneously on the same platform, eliminating the need to switch between applications or platforms.
The AutoCAD application originally designed as a stand-alone graphics system for the drafting market. As AutoCAD’s popularity grew, it expanded to include a full design environment, complete with 2D and 3D drafting, drawing management, and review and file management capabilities.

History
AutoCAD developed in 1982 and the first version of AutoCAD released in December of that year. This first version of AutoCAD designed as a desktop application for DOS and Windows. Autodesk released it as a stand-alone DOS application and was compatible with the HP3000 platform. This initial version of AutoCAD did not include 3D capabilities or advanced features. Later versions of AutoCAD added 3D capabilities and eventually replaced the HP3000 platform with OS/2 as the operating system. In 1995, a version of AutoCAD released for the OS/2 platform.
With the release of version 2002 of AutoCAD, Autodesk introduced a set of three different levels of software development. Lower-level versions are for apps that users use only occasionally. The intermediate level includes programs that used for odd jobs. The highest level AutoCAD solutions for CAD programs that used by many users. Release marked the first version of AutoCAD that 100% web-based.
AutoCAD has continuously developed and improved over the last three decades. AutoCAD 2009 program released in September 2009 and the latest version AutoCAD 2013 which released in July 2013.
Autodesk released AutoCAD 2016 as a free download on March 1, 2016.
