How To Get Berries In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. Since Gen 2, berries have appeared in every mainline Pokemon game, and they return in Pokemon Diamond and Shining Pearl. Poffins, which are formed by combining Berries, return in the Switch remakes.
In Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Pokemon may also hold Berries. When particular status or health requirements are met, they will automatically use them. It’s a convenient way to get rid of poison, paralysis, and other ailments without wasting a turn or an item.
Renri Seong updated this page on February 28, 2022: Gym Leaders and even players in competitive fighting use berries as a popular hold item. Berries are easy to come by in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, but they require time to grow, much as in previous Pokemon games. Players can use Berries to build Poffins for the Super Contests or use them in battle once they’ve been picked. Berries, unlike Potions, are not man-made objects, hence they will be used by a Pokemon automatically when the time comes. While the most convenient way to obtain Berries is to plant them or speak to specific NPCs, some wild Pokemon may also carry them, making it feasible to take them with the correct move. The following tutorial has been updated to incorporate a new method of collecting Berries as well as more basic information regarding Berries in BDSP.

How to Get Berries in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Berries may be obtained in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl in three ways:
- Visiting 3 NPCs daily for free Berries.
- Planting and growing Berries.
- Finding wild Berry bushes.
Players must either obtain Berries from an NPC or pluck them from a wild Berry bush before planting and growing them. These are the large, brightly coloured objects that can be found protruding from the soil along Routes while exploring the Sinnoh region.

When players approach a dark area of soil, the game will prompt them to plant a Berry. The length of time it takes to grow is determined by the type of plant that is planted. An Aspear Berry only takes 12 hours to mature before it can be harvested, whereas a Rowap Berry takes 4 days to mature.
Players should use the Sprayduck watering can on them once they’ve been planted in soil to help them harvest more. Talk to a woman in the flower store in Floaroma Town on the route to Eterna City in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl to get this. This is also where one of the NPCs that gives away free Berries every day may be found.
Wild Pokemon and Berries
Some wild Pokemon, like Pichu, have a 5% chance of carrying a Berry, specifically an Oran Berry. This Berry can be taken from wild Pokemon with moves such as Thief, or players can catch the Pokemon and directly take the item from it.
Players can only find out if a Pokemon is holding a Berry by sending out a Pokemon with the Frisk Ability. Depending on what the Berry does, wild Pokemon will use it. If Pichu possesses an Oran Berry and reaches half health, it will consume the Oran Berry instantly. If a Pokemon is afflicted with a status ailment, it will eat the Berry that heals the status ailment. When a Pokemon is put to Sleep, it will eat the Chesto Berry and recover from the Sleep ailment.
Vulpix, for example, has a 5% chance of carrying a Rawst Berry, which heals burns. Vulpix can’t get the Burn illness because he’s a Fire-type, so there’s no way he’ll eat the Berry in combat.
When battling Pokemon that may be holding a Berry, avoid employing moves like Bug Bite and Pluck. Instead of stealing the Berry, the Pokemon will consume it.
All Daily Free Berries and Where to Find Them
- Floaroma City, flower shop in the middle – Woman to the right will give a common Berry.
- Route 208 (Near Hearthome City) Berry Master’s House, he will give a good Berry.
- Pastoria City, southwestern house, woman to the left gives a rare Berry.
Every day, return to them to acquire a new, random berry. Once players have mastered Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, this becomes a lot easier. This will also make it easier to travel between areas with fertile soil. This makes caring for Berries much easier, and if watered numerous times, results in a larger crop.
In Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, players will be able to manufacture Poffins for Super Contests later on. Poffins are manufactured by mixing Berries and giving the resulting product to a Pokemon in order to increase its Sheen. The greater a Poffin’s rank, the better the Berry.
More Information About Berries in BDSP
Players can examine the Tag of a Berry in their inventory to see what type of Condition it will improve. While lesser and more frequent berries like Chesto and Oran will only help with one ailment, uncommon berries like Rowap can help with three or more. If players want to evolve a Pokemon by maxing out a Condition, they should stick to Berries that only boost that condition.
When things get tough, berries are usually utilised for healing, but unusual Berries offer unique properties. Friendship can be increased by Berries, but at the sacrifice of one of the Pokemon’s Base Stats. A Pomeg Berry, for example, increases a Pokemon’s Friendship while lowering its base HP.
Friendship grows quickly in BDSP, so it’s best not to use Friendship-raising Berries on Pokemon unless their base stats are consistently low. Eevee has a 55 Base HP and three possible evolutions linked to the Friendship mechanism. Giving it a Pomeg Berry may reduce its base HP, but Eevee already has a low base HP. However, before feeding certain Berries to their Pokemon, players should always check their Pokemon’s Base Stats.
