The First And Second Calamities
The first Calamity known as the Wind Calamity, and it marked the of Hydaelyn’s recorded history. The storey of Good King Moggle Mog accounts for the most of what known about the incident. Moogles said to dwell free in the skies until a war gods puts them in peril, according to the storey. King Mog led his people to Eorzea for safety, but he stayed behind. Storms thought to have accompanied the Calamity.
The Lightning Calamity followed, just as mankind was preparing to build their kingdoms. The expansion depleted nature’s resources, and volcanoes erupted, spewing smoke across Eorzea and plunging the world into darkness. Lightning struck for a year and a day, forcing mankind to retreat underground. Many people died of plague while living underground, and it was there that prayers and early types of magical incantation began.
The Third And Fourth Calamities
The Calamity of Fire was the next disaster to strike. When magic discovered, corrupt churches arose, resulting in holy wars, genocide, and witch hunts. Scholars believe that the gods chose the Calamity as a means of punishing humans. The sun became larger, causing wildfires to sweep over the globe. It thought that Thanalan, which is currently entirely desert, once a rich grassland before the Calamity.
It was the fourth Calamity that brought the Allagan Empire to its knees. Allag was in decline at the time, so a scientist named Amon attempted to revive the empire by resurrecting the first emperor, Xande. They set out for conquest under Xande’s reign, making pacts with a voidsent known as the Cloud of Darkness. Their objective was to use a doorway to the Void to destroy the world.
The Allagans used this plan to ensconce the primal Bahamut in an artificial satellite known as Dalamud. They possessed enough strength with that satellite and the Sycrus Tower to open a voidgate and let the Cloud of Darkness enter. However, when the ground beneath the Sycrus Tower gave way and earthquakes tore the area apart, this strategy failed. The Sycrus Tower sunk underground after the Allagan power grid destroyed.
The Fifth And Sixth Calamities
The Ice Calamity was the fifth calamity. It was a never-ending winter, and even the seas froze. Miqo’te tribes migrated across the sea as a result of this catastrophe. Much more is unknown about the fifth Calamity. The Age of Endless Frost is another name for it. The next disaster, on the other hand, was far more well-known.
The Water Calamity, which ended the War of the Magi, was the sixth Calamity. The war lasted over two centuries, and experts believe that the Calamity brought about by white and black magicians using too much of the land’s aether in their battles. Due to the large amount of aether consumed, water-aspected aether left behind, resulting in a tremendous flood. The flood destroyed city-states like Nym ad Mhach, forcing everyone to evacuate to higher ground. The majority sought refuge in the peaks of Gyr Abania, while Mhach’s magicians constructed a Void Ark to hover above the deluge. This sixth Calamity compelled mages to search out a new type of magic that was not harmful to the environment. As a result, red magic was born.

The Seventh And Eight Calamities
The next two Calamities are the most well-known to Final Fantasy 14 players. Most Eorzeans surprised by the seventh Calamity since they thought the worst over because the previous six Calamities were related to the six elements and there were no more elements to base Calamities on. The Circle of Knowing founded by those who felt a seventh Calamity was on the way and wanted to prevent it from happening.
The seventh Calamity brought about by the Garlean Empire. They made the decision to employ Dalamud as a conquest weapon and bring it down on Eorzea. They succeeded in bringing the moon down, but astonished to learn that Dalamud was actually a satellite that held the primaeval Bahamut. The dragon primordial exploded from the satellite, wreaking havoc on Eorzea. The satellite itself wreaked havoc, with fragments falling into towns, cities, and the ocean, causing tidal waves. Following this, the Circle of Knowing renamed the Scions of the Seventh Dawn (a reference to the seventh Calamity).
Only in an alternate timeline revealed in the events of Shadowbringers did the last Calamity occur. The next Calamity, like the seventh, caused by the Garlean Empire. They developed a lethal vapour known as Black Rose, which disrupts the aetherial flow of anyone who comes into touch with it. The gas, like Dalamund, intended to be a weapon of conquest but spiralled out of control. This chemical weapon blasted throughout Eorzea, wiping out all civilizations and leaving only a few survivors.
