How To Grow Bananas In Stardew Valley. Two new varieties of fruit were added to Stardew Valley in the 1.5 update: mangos and bananas. The latter is required for a variety of tasks, including obtaining a Golden Walnut and constructing a significant structure.
While exploring Ginger Island, you’ll see that some Bananas are required for a few tasks. Here’s how to grow them and what you can do with them.

Bananas can be obtained in two ways: by growing a Banana Tree or by raising Blue Discus in a Fish Pond.

How To Find Banana Trees
Planting a Banana Tree is the simplest way to grow bananas. That sounds simple enough, but getting a seedling for the tree is more difficult than it appears, and the tree takes a long time to mature and begin bearing fruit.
Banana Trees can be obtained in a couple of ways.
- The first way is to trade five Dragon Teeth to the Island Trader on Ginger Island
- The second is by cracking open Golden Coconuts.
Island Trader
The Island Trader’s booth must be constructed before they may begin trading. After constructing the Island Farmhouse, the parrots will congregate just north of the entrance beach. The Island Trader can be unlocked by paying them 10 Golden Walnuts. This seller will give you a Banana Sapling in exchange for five Dragon Teeth.
- Dragon Teeth can be found largely around the gigantic fossilised skeletons that the Volcano Dungeon’s floors occasionally possess.
- Lava Lurks, which are lava monsters who thrust their heads up and launch fireballs, also drop them.
- After constructing the Island Resort, the player can visit the Pirate Cove on the island’s east side. Stingrays may be captured here, and if they’re put in a Fish Pond, they’ll occasionally produce Dragon Teeth. After the Fish Pond population reaches nine or ten, they can begin generating this item, but the daily chance of creating it is only 5%, so this isn’t the most reliable way to get Dragon Teeth.
The Island Trader will exchange the five Dragon Teeth for a Banana Sapling once the player has obtained them.
Golden Coconuts
Cracking open Golden Coconuts is the second way to find Banana Trees. These fruits work in a similar way to Geodes. When the player locates them, they should bring them to Clint, who will open them for 25g. Golden Coconuts cannot crushed using the Geode Crusher. Each one doesn’t ensure a Banana Sapling, but the odds aren’t insignificant.
Here’s every way to find a Golden Coconut:
- Shake palm trees on Ginger Island
- Dig up artifact spots on Ginger Island
- Cultivate Blue Discus in a Fish Pond until the population reaches nine. At this point, they have a small chance to produce a Golden Coconut each day (about 5%)
- Once the player cracks open their first Golden Coconut, the Island Trader will start selling them in exchange for ten regular Coconuts.
Plant a Banana Sapling after receiving one and wait 28 days for it to grow. In the summer, they only produce fruit in the Greenhouse, on the Island Farm, or on the regular farm.
Blue Discus Ponds
Bananas can also obtained by rearing Blue Discus in a Fish Pond. What is it with the fish on Ginger Island and these dangling bananas?
Build a Fish Pond by paying the supplies and gold (5,000 gold, 200 Stone, 5 Seaweed, 5 Green Algae) at Robin’s Carpenter Shop, or empty an existing Fish Pond if necessary.
A Blue Discus can captured in any freshwater body, such as rivers, on Ginger Island North (where the Volcano is) and Ginger Island West (where the Farm is).
Wait for the Blue Discus’ population to grow to at least four fish after placing it in the Fish Pond (at population three, they’ll ask for three Taro Roots before the population may grow any further). The fish have around a 1% probability of producing a Banana each day at this time. As the population expands, so does the likelihood of a Banana produced. They have around a 15% probability of producing a banana at population nine or 10.

What Bananas Are Used For
Isn’t all that effort in locating a Banana worth it? Never fear, the effort will be well worth it. Bananas have a variety of purposes, some of which are quite beneficial. The Island Obelisk and getting three Golden Walnuts are the two most crucial.
The Obelisk on the Island
The player can access his magic book and construct special structures by visiting the Wizard’s Tower. Some are obelisks that transfer the player to different locations. A few objects are required to construct the Island Obelisk, which transports the user to Ginger Island:
- Bananas 10
- 10 Iridium Bars
- 10 Dragon Teeth
- 1,000,000 gold
The player will save a lot of time by building this obelisk because they will be able to warp to the island whenever they choose instead of waiting for Willy to take them.
The Banana Shrine is a shrine dedicated to bananas.
Because there are only 120 Golden Walnuts on Ginger Island, finding enough to complete everything is difficult. However, if the player has started producing Bananas, there is a simple way to get three of them.
A bizarre temple stands next to Leo’s residence on Ginger Island. A gorilla will emerge and award the player three Golden Walnuts if they present a Banana to the shrine.
Other Uses
Bananas have a few more purposes that aren’t as important as the obelisk or Golden Walnuts.
- They, like most other crops, can consumed to restore health and energy.
- Jelly or wine can made from them.
- Banana Pudding can made by combining a banana with one cup of milk and one teaspoon of sugar.
- For five minutes and one second, this meal heals 125 energy and 56 health while also giving +1 to Mining, Luck, and Defense.
- By trading 30 Bone Fragments to the Island Trader, you can get the recipe.
- The Relaxed Fit Pants made by stitching a banana together with a bolt of fabric.
- In the dyeing process, they also count as a yellow item.
