How To Evolve Scyther In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl. The majority of Bug-type Pokemon have poor starting stat totals and are vulnerable to numerous common Pokemon such as Flying-type and Rock-type. However, some Bug-types, such as the Bug/Steel-type Scizor, are quite powerful. Scizor’s Steel-typing offers it an advantage over Fairy-type Pokemon, as seen in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Scizor was the evolved version of Scyther that originally debuted in Pokemon Gold/Silver. Its technique of evolution hasn’t altered in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, which can be frustrating for some players who prefer to play alone. Unfortunately for Shining Pearl players, Scyther (or Scizor) is a Brilliant Diamond-exclusive Pokemon, so they’ll have to trade for it.

Finding & Evolving Scyther
Scyther may be found at two different areas in Brilliant Diamond. Can be caught with Net Balls, which have a 3.5 percent catch rate when used on Bug or Water-type Pokemon, according to its Bug typing. Scyther is a rare Wild Encounter who dwells on Route 229. There’s a 5% chance it’ll show up in the morning, day, or night. Scyther will be about level 52 because Route 229 is only accessible in the post-game.
Scyther will spawn as a rare spawn (30% appearance rate) in the following Grand Underground hideaways for those who seek him before facing the Elite Four:
- Grassland Cave
- Riverbank Cave
- Still-Water Cavern
- Big Bluff Cavern
- Sunlit Cavern(*)
Scyther arrives in Sunlit Cavern.
Scyther’s level in the Grand Underground is determined by the amount of gym badges he has. Its level ranges from 16 (no badges) to 63 (all badges) (all eight badges).
Players must trade Scyther when it is holding the Metal Coat item to evolve it. After obtaining the National Dex, the only way to obtain a Metal Coat is to complete the National Dex. Sail to Iron Island, then chat with Byron at Riley’s House.
The alternative option is to look for Bronzor, Magnemite, or Beldum in the Grand Underground. A Metal Coat has a 5% chance of being carried by these Pokemon. Take it from them with Thief, or catch them and see if they’re carrying it.
After that, have Scyther wear the Metal Coat and proceed to any Pokemon Center’s Local or Global Trading Rooms. Scyther can be traded in order for it to evolve into Scizor. This is the only way to obtain both Scyther and Scizor for Shining Pearl players.

How To Evolve Scyther
Because Scyther is Bug/Flying and Scizor is Bug/Steel, they are both 4x vulnerable to Rock and Fire, respectively. It’s recommended to avoid putting them up against these two types in battle because a single Rock or Fire-type attack can wipe them out in a single hit. Scyther can learn Steel Wing from TM47 for protection against Rock-type. Scizor is unable to learn Ground-type moves such as Earthquake to counteract Fire-types. To take down a Fire-type with Scizor, the best tactic is to strike first and hit hard.
Scyther is the better choice for trainers looking for a swift, hard-hitting Pokemon. Its dual-type gives it an edge over its own type (Bug-type), but it also gives it a significant vulnerability against the common Rock-type.
Scyther has the following Type-effectiveness:
Strengths: | Bug, Grass, Psychic, Dark |
Weaknesses: | Rock (x4), Flying, Fire, Electric, Ice |
Resistances: | Bug, Grass, Fighting |
Immunities: | Ground |
Scizor’s Type-effectiveness has a few differences from Scyther’s:
Strengths: | Fairy, Psychic, Dark, Grass, Rock |
Weaknesses: | Fire (x4) |
Resistances: | Normal, Grass, Bug, Psychic, Steel, Ice, Fairy, Dragon |
Immunities: | Poison |
Scizor is a good choice for trainers looking for a Pokemon with a lot of resistances and only one vulnerability. Despite having a 4x weakness to Fire, Scizor’s strong defence and powerful attack, combined with a solid moveset, make it a valuable member of the squad.
