Trainers can catch the rare Ghost/Dark-type Spiritomb in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, just like they can in Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, if they look in the correct spot. The Odd Keystone is a common item found in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl in three separate locations. After completing a few prerequisites, players can summon Spiritomb using the Odd Keystone in the Hallowed Tower and battle/catch it. Speaking with an NPC on Route 208 outside of Hearthome City is the quickest way to obtain the Odd Keystone. This individual can be discovered in the bottom right corner of a Honey Tree, obscured by some trees. He’ll hand out an Odd Keystone and advise the player to proceed to Route 209 and “listen to the stone pillar.” Route 209 is located on the opposite side of Hearthome City, just before the entrance to Solaceon Town.
Once players have earned their fifth gym badge, they can obtain the second Odd Keystone. Players must also have HM Surf and be able to use it in non-battle situations. First, go to Cynthia’s grandma in Celestic Town and obtain HM Surf. Then go to the Hearthome City Gym and fight Fantina. After you’ve completed all of this, fly to Twinleaf Town with HM Fly. A body of water can be found near the bottom of the town. Use HM Surf to travel to the lake’s bottom left corner and investigate the tree on the left. This is the game’s second Odd Keystone.
Finally, mining can be used to obtain an Odd Keystone in the Grand Underground. This isn’t a surefire technique to earn the Odd Keystone, and it could take a while. This is the only way to gain more than two Odd Keystones in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl if players have already gathered the Odd Keystones from Route 208 and Twinleaf Town.
Using the Odd Keystone
Interact with the decaying tower on Route 209’s far right side. The Hallowed Tower is not to be confused with the Lost Tower; it can be located along the river.
Players must converse with 32 NPCs in the Grand Underground in order to employ the Odd Keystone. The message at the Hallowed Tower will change every time the player interacts with an NPC or reaches a milestone. Players will receive the following message after speaking with 29-31 NPCs: “There is some type of presence… It appears ready to emerge!”
Trainers must also have many Keystones in order to obtain more than one Spiritomb. Unfortunately, speaking with an additional 32 NPCs (per Odd Keystone) will be required to initiate Spiritomb’s encounter.
