How to raise cats and dogs
Cats and dogs can be bred with The Sims: Cats & Dogs extension. Female cats and dogs can give birth to 1 to 3 offspring. This results in a draw luck and depends on the number of family slots currently available when the mother gives birth.
Each kitten and puppy each occupies one family slot. So, if you are looking for a big happy furry family, you need to make sure there is space to welcome the latest members!
The mating cycle of cats and dogs
You may suspect that only females can give birth, which is correct when it comes to animals. In the simulation time, the pregnancy period will only last about 24 hours. This is different from past games where pet pregnancy lasted as long as Sims.
When small hearts surround them, female pets will indicate that they are in heat. You may also notice a heart symbol in their thought bubble, just like a human sim has a heart symbol when they whirr.
At this point, pets usually need a little encouragement-after all, you don’t want them to run away and give birth to furry babies all over the town. Interacting with female pets at this stage should prompt the “Encourage Mating” option, which allows you to set gears between the selected pet and the available spouse of your choice.
The first breeding is not always successful, so you may need to wait until your pet’s next heat cycle before trying to play Cupid.
It will be fairly apparent whether a mating was successful:
Successful Mating | The pets will rub noses as a flurry of hearts swirl around both of them – no pet houses rocking about this time. The pet will also gain a positive moodlet. |
---|---|
Failed Mating | The pets you attempted to play matchmaker for will react aggressively towards each other and suffer negative moodlets from the botched experience. |
Pet labor and childbirth
Over time, female pets will visibly suffer from symptoms such as gasping and pacing. Don’t panic! This only indicates that the pet has given birth. And the game should trigger push notifications to alert you to home events.
You don’t have to rush to the Brindleton Bay Veterinary Clinic to Sim. Pregnant pets instinctively know what to do and when the time comes they naturally lie down to give way. When garbage is born, a name prompt pops up momentarily in the center of the screen, like when a human baby sim enters the world.
Professional breeding
Puppies and kittens can be sold by phone from the Rental Services tab. Selling pets is a prompt only available to puppies and kittens, unlike keeping pets for adoption. This means your sim can be a breeding sideline or a full-time home carrier.
How to raise chickens

Chickens can now be bred in The Sims 4: Cottage Living. Breeding works a little differently for feathered friends. You need to buy a poultry farm where your sim can keep up to 8 chickens.
Of course, chickens lay eggs no matter what, but of course you need to keep them in the poultry house in order for them to hatch. The fertilized eggs need to be returned to the chicken coop, where they need to be cultivated under the chicken for 24 hours.
If you have the Wildfox Lot Challenge active, you need to protect your hut from the sneaky bandits trying to shed their eggs. For this, you can install fox alerts in the poultry house or rely on your trusted llamas to drive them away with their striking attitude and striking projectile brim.
Rabbits, cows, and llamas
Unfortunately, the Sims 4: Cottage Living does not allow you to raise cows and llamas. Unfortunately, the cattle work more like objects in the game. You buy them in the in-game shop, where you can choose from a selection of color variants for your selected pet. You can find cows and llamas where you buy the stalls your Sims will put them in.
There is no breeding of rabbits. In hindsight, that’s probably a good thing because sooner or later it could have gotten out of hand if they could breed like rabbits. Instead, your Sims can try to befriend the lucky hoppers and even dress them up in little knitted sweaters.
