How To Complete The Chipping Away Quest In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is full of adventures to embark on, places to explore and goods to collect. During this Viking odyssey, which continues to expand with new DLC content and challenges, Eivor will take countless paths to help the Vikings gain power and influence in the United Kingdom. One of the key events in the game is Eivor clashing with Oxfordscire’s rival ruler, Eadwyn.

About chipping away quests and fin locations
After meeting with their brothers Sigurd and Basim, as part of the Brewing Rebellion mission, Eivor will receive a mission called “Chipping Away”. This task requires the Vikings to help fyrd destroy the supply vehicles and clear nearby guards, greatly weakening the Anglo-Saxon ruler Eadwyn’s control of Oxfordscire.
The recommended combat power in this area is 90, so when adventuring and fighting in this area, please make sure that it is within about ten points. Completing this task will reward 5100 XP.
Task location
The mission can be found in Oxfordscire, on the road between Buckingham and Leah Villa Garrison. A small group of Anglo-Saxon soldiers can be seen crouching in the bushes on the roadside ledge; one of them will have a mission mark above them. This is directly below the viewing platform of Tharelea ruins in the northwest of Linfuda. Linforda is a small town north of the river, passing through Oxfordscire to the east. A progress meter will appear on the top left portion of the screen once the quest is initiated. This will indicate how many of the supplies have been destroyed thus far.
- Note: There’s a chance Eivor will begin this mission already partially completed, as it’s possible for players to have destroyed some of these supplies beforehand. But if there is no progress, players will need to seek out each of the various locations in Oxenefordscire to complete the quest.

Locations Of The Supply Crates
Destroying the crates and picking up Eadwyn’s reinforcements is pretty easy, but the hardest part of this quest is finding the location of each of these enemy camps. This is because the waypoints will not be displayed until they are relatively close. But don’t be afraid. This guide describes where each of these is. Basically, the player starts from the perspective of Thaerelea Ruins and moves clockwise through the north and center areas of Oxfordscire.
- The first area of interest resides to the east of Buckingham, just to the southeast of the Viewpoint where the quest began. There will be a small encampment in the forest near Thaerelea Ruins.
- Next, reach the second location by heading to the south and a bit east, across the river and a bit south of Linforda.
- For the third crate, make the long trek westward through Oxenefordscire, until hitting the town of Oxenforda all the way to the southwest of the region.
- Fast travel to a point that resides closer if possible.
- Various other tasks and collectibles can be had here, but for the time being, focus on taking out the supply crates and picking off any nearby guards here.
- For the fourth, follow the river northward through the woodlands until arriving at a location a bit to the southwest of Buckingham.
- For the fifth and final crate location, cross the river again and head aways northward, until reaching a couple of clustered points of interest to the far north of Oxenefordscire.
- Alternatively, it might be a good idea to fast travel back to the Viewpoint where the quest began, and heading northwestward from there.
- Finally, head back to Buckingham in order to finish off this quest.
Note: If you haven’t completed the Fiery Ambush quest, you’ll need to knock out that quest before you can complete it. Doing so will completely fill the progress bar and officially end the Chipping Away quest.
- In this quest, Eivor will be tasked with placing red oil jugs on the main road, which will serve as a trap for approaching foot soldiers. Wait for the troops to approach while hiding from a distance. Once they draw near, fire upon one of the jugs, which will cause an explosion and provide a fiery death for the troops.
Quest tips
As mentioned earlier, once you find these locations, it’s not too difficult to complete the tasks they need. However, Eivor can be overwhelmed by Toro’s band, so be careful when approaching.
- Sneak around the outskirts of each area rather than rushing them directly. Consider picking off enemy soldiers from afar rather than going in swinging.
- It’s helpful to use Eivor’s Raven to scout out the area, as covering more ground quicker yields a better chance of finding and marking these locations. The point of interest will be marked with a green glow that will encompass the general area.
- Have the torch ready and toss them at the back end of the crates. Stand back and watch the carnage ensue.
- Alternatively, use flaming arrows or toss flaming jugs to hit these critical areas.
