Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl: How To Get Shaymin. Certain Legendary Pokémon could not obtained without special event materials in the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. These artefacts would grant access to unique quests and locations where Legendaries may found. For a long time, this was the only way to get these specific Pokémon, which is why it was so aggravating that many of the event items were not widely distributed, at least in the western market. You’d have to be near a GameStop, happen to know if they’re doing an item giveaway, then drag yourself all the way over there to obtain it.
Unfortunately, this is a flaw that has spread to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Several Legendary Pokémon are still locked behind event items, and while the distribution of the things will most likely more user-friendly this time around, we have no idea when they will be available. We do, however, have a lead on a… less-than-savory method of obtaining at least one event Legendary, Shaymin, courtesy to the playerbase’s continuous tinkering. In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, here’s how to catch Shaymin.
Shaymin generally locked behind the event item Oak’s Letter, which grants you access to Shaymin’s secret home, the Flower Paradise, just like the other event Pokémon. However, players have discovered a bug that, when perfectly executed, can transport you to Flower Paradise for a Shaymin encounter.
Before we go into this glitch, a word of caution: because this approach necessitates glitching out the game, there’s a good chance that using it, whether correctly or incorrectly, may corrupt your save file. There is no method to make separate backups of your save data on a Switch (at least that I’m aware of), so be aware that chasing Shaymin in this manner carries some risk.
How to get Shaymin in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Firstly, there are a few requirements you need to have fulfilled (or not fulfilled in one case).
- Obtain the National Dex by registering all 150 Sinnoh-native Pokémon
- Have access to Route 224, to the east of Victory Road
- You need to have NOT battled the Trainer Black Belt Carl on Route 224. If you’ve already fought and beaten him, you’re out of luck
Continue walking down Route 224 until you see the Black Belt, Carl, marching in a circle. Do not engage in combat with him just yet. Pass him by and defeat the three trainers stationed in front of him. Save your game after that. Carl must engage you in a very specific location. Stand in the position shown below, facing the water, until Carl engages you. Start pressing the A button as soon as he sees you.
Even though you’re not facing the sea, if you timed your button click perfectly, you should get a popup to utilise Surf right after you beat Carl. Reload your save and try again if you don’t get the prompt. If you acquire it, accept the offer to begin surfing and save your game.
You’ll be right on top of Carl when surfing. To go past Carl, gently tilt the stick upwards (and make sure you utilise the stick; the D-pad will move you too quickly). You’ll dismount and have to reload your save if you move too quickly. After you’ve gotten through Carl, carefully navigate your way through the following sector until you reach the Dragon Tamer Trainer. Like this, your character model should clipped into the ground:
Make your way to the left side of the stairwell until your character’s model totally hidden. Save your game and then exit the gaming software. When you reopen the game, your character should be hovering just above the ground. Close the app and save your game. You should be hovering above the stairwell while surfing when you reload. Float downwards past the tree column, then to the left through the water’s rocks. It’s fine to put your surfboard down here because you’ll be strolling on the ocean.
Walk up and right as long as you can until you reach an unseen barrier. Surf on the water while facing right. You’ve reached Seabreak Path, and you’re on the proper route, the game will tell you.
While surfing, lean slightly to the right, then turn north and dismount. Through the level boundary, you’ll be able to begin heading northward. Make yourself at home because you’ll be walking for around 40 seconds.
You’ll eventually pass through the barrier and arrive in Flower Paradise. Before engaging with Shaymin, walk up to it and save your game. You can now encounter and catch it as usual, and when you’re done, Fly will accompany you out of Flower Paradise.
How to get Gracidea in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Don’t forget to visit Floaroma Town once you’ve grabbed Shaymin. If you talk to a blonde woman beside a signpost, she’ll give you the Gracidea, a key item that, when used on Shaymin from your inventory, will change it from its Grass type Land Forme to its Grass/Flying type Sky Forme.
That’s everything there is to know about obtaining Shaymin in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, as well as how to get the Gracidea to change forms.
