How To Beat Candice In The Snowpoint City Gym In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl. The Snowpoint City Gym is the seventh gym that players will visit in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, and it is home to Candice, an ice-type specialist. Snowpoint is by far the most difficult gym in the gen 4 games due to its devilishly difficult puzzle, with players likely spending far more time getting to Candice than battling with her. It is worth noting, however, that this is due as much to the fight being very easy as it is to the puzzle being all that difficult.
Due to Candice’s over-reliance on ice-type Pokemon, players with a half-decent fire-type Pokemon should have no trouble taking down the gym leader. They will be rewarded with the Icicle Badge if they do so.

How to Get Ready for Snowpoint City Gym
Players who chose Chimchar as their starter Pokemon shouldn’t have to do much preparation for the Snowpoint City Gym, as a level 48 Infernape should be able to defeat all of Candice’s Pokemon without the need for any healing items. However, some of the other trainers in the gym have Pokemon that fire and fighting-type moves are ineffective against, while others have access to water-type attacks. With this in mind, players should bring a few other heavy hitters just in case.
Fortunately, Infernape isn’t the only viable option for defeating Candice, as Ponyta (which by now should have evolved into a Rapi) is also a viable option.
How to Contact Candice
The Snowpoint City gym puzzle is arguably the most difficult of all the gym puzzles in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. It requires players to slide along sheets of ice in order to break some of the many giant snowballs that litter the gym, clearing a path to its leader, Candice. This task is made more difficult by the fact that players can only slide into the snowballs from certain directions and must also defeat a number of Ace Trainers along the way.
Anyone who wants to solve the puzzle on their own should be able to do so with enough trial and error, but those who prefer to follow a guide can do so right here. It’s worth noting that, unlike some of the other gyms in the game, the one in Snowpoint City will completely reset the moment players step outside. With this in mind, players should stock up on healing items at the nearby Pokemart before entering, as they won’t be able to visit a Pokemon Center before taking on the gym leader.
How to Survive Candice
Those who enter the Snowpoint City gym with Infernape as their main attacker may find Candice to be much easier to defeat than some of the gym’s other trainers. This is due to the fact that three of her four Pokemon are vulnerable to fire-type moves, with the other having relatively low defences and thus being easily dispatched with a powerful move like Close Combat. Granted, the other three Pokemon all have Earthquake, but because Infernape is faster, it should be able to take them all out with a single Flame Wheel hit before Candice’s Pokemon even have a chance to act.

Players who use Groveller or Machoke should have little trouble with Snover, Sneasel, and Abomasnow, but may struggle against Medicham due to their poor type effectiveness. With this in mind, players may want to bring a Haunter along for the Medicham portion of the fight to speed things up a little. At high enough levels (mid-to-high forties), Groveller and Machoke should be able to outlast Medicham and win the battle on their own.
