Smelting Leveling Guide New World: Smelter Location Smelting, along with woodworking, leatherworking, weaving, and stonecutting, is one of the five refining trade skills in the New World. Smelting converts ore into ingots, which are used in professions such as armoring, weaponsmithing, jewel crafting, and engineering. In this New World guide, we’ll go over all the numbers you’ll need to know to advance your skill from level 0 to level 200.

Levels of Smelting 0-50
To advance from Smelting level 0 to 50, you will need 14,056 Smelting Experience. This equates to approximately 391 Iron or Silver Ingots, or 1,564 Iron or Silver Ore. If you want to take a look at our guide on where to find Iron in New World, you can do so here.
50-100 Smelting Level
To advance from Smelting level 50 to Smelting level 100, you will need 152,934 Smelting Experience. This equates to approximately 671 Steel Ingots, which necessitates 2013 Iron Ingots, 1342 Charcoal, and 671 Sand Flux. If you want to look at some farm routes, you can refer to our guide on where to find gold in the New World.

It should be noted that you can also use Gold Ore to smelt into Gold Ingots. Gold provides slightly more Smelting experience than Iron, but it is much more difficult to obtain, so it is not nearly as efficient. However, you could get lucky and set some low buy orders to pick up cheap Gold Ore at the Trading Post, or you could simply have some from your farming routes to supplement your Steem.
504 Gold Ingots, or 2520 Gold Ore, 1008 Silver Ingots, and 504 Sand Flux are required for Gold Ingots. You’ll notice that the raw materials are much higher than Steel, so we’d recommend going with the former option and just mass-producing Steel and possibly making a few Gold Ingots with the extra materials you pick up along the way.
Level of Smelting 100-150
To advance from Smelting level 100 to 150, you must exclusively produce Starmetal Ingots. 6 Starmetal Ore, 2 Steel Ingots, 2 Charcoal, and Flux are required for each Starmetal Ingot. To advance from Smelting level 100 to 150, you will need a total of 1,201,106 XP. This equates to approximately 591 Starmetal Ingots, 3,546 Starmetal Ore, and 1,182 Steel.
Again, Platinum is an option, but it is not nearly as efficient as Steel, as was the case with Gold. If you need assistance, remember to consult our guide on where to find Starmetal or Platinum.
150-200 Smelting Level
level 150 to 200 requires a total of 9,949,809 Smelting experience. This is equivalent to 994 Orichalcum Ingots, or 7,952 Orichalcum Ore, 1,988 Starmetal Ingot, 1,988 Charcoal, and 994 Sand Flux.
That brings us to the end of the New World levelling guide. On paper, it appears to be a simple process, but it will require either a large sum of money or a significant amount of time spent mining. Our advice is to simply level alongside another primary profession, such as armoring or weaponsmithing. If you are primarily interested in Jewelcrafting, you can use the alternatives and focus more on Silver, Gold, and Platinum for Smelting s.
How to Improve Your Chances of Smelting More Items in New World
The ability to create bonus items is an often-overlooked aspect of smelting and other refining skills. You can craft additional items at the Smelter, which increases with your Smelting. You can, however, influence this number by using a higher quality flux. That means you can use Shelldust Flux and Obsidian Flux instead of Sand Flux.
When visiting a smelter, keep an eye on the right side of the window, where it says “potential bonus.” There is a row for “chance to craft additional items,” which changes when you select different rarities of Flux for, say, Steel Ingots. In theory, you could buy a tonne of iron ore, smelt it into steel ingots, and then sell it.
