Leon’s origins and design
Backstory
Leon is a new original character from the Free Fire series. Despite being a rising star in the basketball world, Leon Free Fire is not based on any real-life basketball players. Buzzer Beater is a basketball term for a shot that is taken before the game clock of a quarter, half, or overtime period expires but does not go in the basket until after the clock has expired.
Design
Leon is a black man with afro hair and a pair of glasses on his head. He’s dressed in an orange and blue basketball uniform and a white jacket. His uniform is and has a few colours that are fairly common among basketball teams. Leon, despite being a basketball star, isn’t particularly tall. This is most likely a limitation of Free Fire, as characters must have identical hitboxes.
Leon’s power in Free Fire
Buzzer Beater is a skill (Passive)
Leon’s ability is a super versatile passive that regenerates HP indefinitely. The most important aspect of this skill is probably its levels – the amount healed sextuples from level 1 to level 6. The following are the levels of Buzzer Beater:
- Level-1: Recovers 5 HP
- Level-2: Recovers 10 HP
- Level-3: Recovers 15 HP
- Level-4: Recovers 20 HP
- Level-5: Restores 25 HP
- Level-6: Restores 30 HP
Overall, Leon’s skill doesn’t show any difference from the leaked character in OB30 Advance server, without any buffing or nerfing. While 30HP is a very small amount, it stacks up over time in longer fights. The activation time seems to be 3 seconds. You only need to duck away from combat for a moment for Buzzer Beater to trigger.

The weakness of Leon’s passive ability is that you need to max it immediately to get the most effects. The level 1 version of the skill is nearly worthless.
Leon’s skill combination in Free Fire
Because Leon’s ability is a passive skill, it can be combined with almost any skill in the game, from long to close range. It is very effective against chip damage – a combination of Buzzer Beater and EP could quickly get you to full. Overall, the Assaulter and Sniper builds are the best for Leon, as you can quickly go from 100 to 0 in close range fights.
Assaulter and Leon team-up
This is the standard Free Fire teamfight build, with squads chipping at each other for extended combat. Even 1HP can mean the difference between booyah and elimination in these chaotic battles.
With this type of playstyle, the best characters to team up with Leon are Chrono, Alok, K, and Jota. After the big boost in OB29, their skills in chaotic teamfights are excellent, especially Jota’s. You can now gain HP while engaging with Jota and then gain even more HP after disengaging with Leon. You can also increase your HP by doubling down on healing and skills like Xayne or A124.
Sniper teamwork with Leon
With Leon’s ability, sniper duels are actually much better. For example, two body shots from a sniper rifle are usually enough to kill you. However, if you managed to avoid the attack long enough for Leon’s heal to take effect, the attack may no longer be able to harm you. Dasha, Rafael, Laura, and Hayato are the best abilities to use with sniper Leon.
Leon’s best weapon combination
Leon’s ability is useful with all mid/long-range weapons, particularly the Assault Rifle and DMR. Just don’t use his skill in a close-range build, as you’ll be killed instantly. In general, use any AR, DMR, or sniper rifle you can fight with to combo with Leon.
Leon’s performance in Clash Squad and Solo modes?
Leon’s unlimited heal will make him a popular choice in both Clash Squad and Solo. You’d always have enough HP to keep fighting without having to stop. Healing in clash squad is also fairly limited, with the majority of it coming from skills rather than items. Players typically save their money for weapons.
