Metroid Dread Release Date and Review.Prior to the announcement of Metroid Dread a few months ago, everyone was hoping for the ephemeral Metroid Prime 4, which was announced when the Switch was first released. well, it’s been a relatively short wait, but the point is that it’s almost up.
Date and Time of Metroid Dread’s Release
Metroid Dread will be available in digital form on the Nintendo Switch eShop and on physical cartridges on Friday, October 8th, 2021. At the time of writing, Metroid Dread had been available for pre-order on the Switch for some time, and it had also been available for pre-load since last Friday. I should know because I just pre-ordered and pre-loaded it an hour ago.
If you pre-load the digital version, you’ll be able to play it as soon as it becomes available on October 8th at 12:00 a.m. Eastern time. Those in Pacific time will be able to play at 9:00 p.m. on October 7th, while those in Central time will be able to play at 11:00 p.m. that night.

Metroid Dread’s file size is a surprisingly small 4.1 GB. That’s small enough to fit on the internal storage of a Switch, so don’t be concerned if you don’t have an external SD memory card. If you have a fast internet connection, you can download the entire game in about 30 minutes to an hour.
Remember that if you pre-load, you’ll have all of the necessary game files, but you’ll still need some extra time to download a couple of extra files and unpack everything, so you might not be able to play at midnight on the dot.
