During this time, a frost vignette will begin to colour the corners of your screen to warn you of the risk. However, you can defend yourself by wearing leather armour.
Any item of leather armour will negate the freezing effect. Furthermore, if you wear leather boots in the first place, you will not tumble into the Powder Snow. There’s a reason you can wear leather armour now, even though it can’t protect you as well as Netherite Armor or Diamond Armor.
